Street hockey comes to Rockford with a brand new rink. The Rockford Park District and Booker Washington Center opened the Junior StreetHogs Arena. It is at the Booker Washington Center at 534 Kent Street, Rockford. It will provide a place for hundreds of area children to play street hockey and will allow the Rockford Junior StreetHog program to promote the sport of hockey.
The rink costs $10,000 to build. Riverside Community Bank donated $5,000 to help build the new rink. Other charity events helped raise the additional funds.
The Rockford Park District and Rockford IceHogs teamed up in April to bring the Junior StreetHogs to life. During the summer six area community centers have participated in the free program. It is an outreach program that targets at-risk youth. To learn more about the Junior StreetHogs contact the Rockford Park District at (815) 987-8800.
