Big 2nd Inning Lifts Snappers to Win


The Snappers picked up game one against the Kane County Cougars 9-4 on Tuesday night at Pohlman Field with success on both sides of the ball.  

The Snappers had a big bottom of the second inning scoring six runs against Cougars starter, Kyle Zimmer. Zimmer was the fifth overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft out of the University of San Francisco. Nate Roberts hit an RBI single. Wang-Wei Lin then hit an RBI single scoring Jairo Rodriguez, who also singled. Eddie Rosario, on his first day back after being activated today off the disabled list, hit a two-run triple scoring Roberts and Lin. Miguel Sano hit a sac fly to score Rosario from third. It didn't stop there- Kennys Vargas hit a solo homer, his sixth in nine games, giving the Snappers an early 6-0 lead.
Lin hit a two-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth scoring A.J. Pettersen and Roberts, who both singled increasing the Snappers lead to 8-0.
The Cougars picked up their first run in the top of the eighth with an RBI double from Michael Antonio scoring Jorge Bonifacio, who also doubled bringing the score to 8-1.
Justin Trapp hit a two-out RBI single scoring Kevin David in the top of the ninth. Bonifacio went on to hit a two-RBI single scoring Trapp and Lopez lessening the Snappers lead to 9-4. 
DJ Baxendale came in with one out to go in the top of the ninth. Snappers' starter, David Hurlbut worked an impressive eight and two-third innings allowing ten hits and two runs, while striking out seven.
Baxendale closed the game by striking out Michael Antonio. Baxendale worked one third inning allowing two hits and no runs, while striking out one. Hurlbut picked up his fourth win of the season.
Wednesday night the Snappers and Cougars continue series at 7:00 p.m. On the mound for the Snappers is Taylor Rogers, who is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in one appearance with the Snappers.
