RFD celebrates it's one millionth Allegiant passenger after what has already been a year for the record-books.
As only the 5th airport to fly one million passengers through Allegiant RFD adds that recognition to a shelf of many other achievements and improvements from previous years.
"It was close to home, I didn't have to travel, I didn't have to get in one and carry me and pick me back up so it was great," said Courtright.
Patricia Courtright has flown twice now out of Rockford. This time when she got on the ground a surprise was waiting for her. She was celebrated as RFD's one millionth Allegiant passenger. One million passengers is nothing to scoff at but it only adds to a trend that has more passengers than ever flying RFD.
"Just the time involved, coming here to this airport versus the time going to O'Hare and the traffic so it's very nice," said Bonnie Whitmer.
First quarter numbers for this year dropped jaws setting a new record for the airport. Even with unexpected cancellations by Direct Air a few months ago, passenger turnout continued to rise, sending more than 30,000 across the country in March alone.
"Easy parking, easy maneuvering through the terminal, low-cost carriers going to great destinations and of course leading all of that is Allegiant so we're very pleased about all that," said Mike Dunn, RFD Director of Economic Development and Governmental Affairs.
Airport administration notice a wide variety of passengers not limited to Rockford and it's surrounding cities.
"We're their airport too, we're a regional airport and not only are we a regional airport but we're a regional airport that makes it a little more pleasurable to travel," said Dunn.
"We've probably flown 50 times over the years since they came here. And we're just thrilled with it," said Whitmer.
As of may, Rockford International has shown growth in 17 of the last 18 months contributing to a record setting first quarter this year.
