BELOIT (WREX) -

A Janesville woman is dead after losing control of her vehicle at a high rate of speed.

According to an investigation by the Beloit Police Department, Heather L. Pfeiffer was driving a Dodge Caravan in excess of 70 mph on Prairie Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Saturday. She then attempted to turn onto Carlyle Avenue and lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle rolled at least three times before coming to rest against a tree in the yard of 2084 Prairie Avenue. Pfeiffer was ejected from the vehicle, suggesting to officers that she was not wearing a seatbelt.

Prior to the crash Pfeiffer was stopped by a Beloit Police Officer for a traffic violation. She then fled the scene while the officer checked her information on a computer. The officer pursued Pfeiffer for a short distance before ending the pursuit.

Toxicology tests will be conducted to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
