ROCKFORD (WREX) - Rockford is in the running for a manufacturing boost worth millions; $2.1 million, to be exact.
A collaborative through Northern Illinois University applied for a grant that would create a manufacturing alliance in Rockford to make small and medium sized manufacturers in the area more competitive. It would be called the Rockford Area Advanced Manufacturing Alliance (RAAMA).
The same collaborative successfully won a $2.4 million grant last year for aerospace work, so it is hopeful that this one could have the same result.
Besides NIU, the team involved also includes the Rockford Area Economic Development Council (RAEDC), EIGERlab, Illinois Manufacturing Extension Center (IMEC), Rockford Regional Economic Development District (RREDD), Rock Valley College (RVC), and the Boone and Winnebago Counties Workforce Investment Board (WIB), and Growth Dimensions of Belvidere-Boone County.
