The first phase of Rockford's Riverwalk is now open to the public.
The multi-million dollar project includes a 236' long cable-stayed bridge connecting the Riverwalk Museum Campus to the Burpee Museum Campus, an amphitheater with seating for small groups or classes, a sitting wall with dock provisions for the Forest City Queen Water Taxi, and several overlook areas for rest stops, food vendors or small gatherings.
The City received a total of $3.4 million in grants from the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program for the $5.5 million project. The City funded an additional $2 million for design and construction management.
