
UPDATE:
South Main Street was previously scheduled to be reopened by the end of the business day on Friday, July 20. However, it will now be closed until further notice.
PREVIOUSLY:
Rockford's South Main Street (IL Route 2) will be temporarily closed Thursday and Friday to allow for the demolition of the Tapco building.
The temporary closure will begin at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 19, and will affect South Main from Morgan Street to Chestnut Street. Cedar Street will also be closed east of South Church Street. If weather cooperates, the streets should be reopened by the end of the work day on Friday.
The roads will be reopened at the end of each work day.
The following detours will be in place for South Main (IL Route 2):
The City of Rockford is asking drivers to use caution while driving in and around the work zones.
