Highland Community College adopts deficit budget

Highland Community College leaders approve a tentative budget and it's in the red.  The budget is for the 2013 fiscal year.

The plan won't be final until September when it's presented to the Illinois Community College Board.  Administrators say they expect a more than half a million dollar shortfall because of decreases in state funding and property taxes.  The deficit is expected to be around $450,000, but will be partially offset by a $360,000 surplus from this fiscal year.  The permanent budget, adopted in the fall could also have less deficit, if enrollment numbers go up.
