Rockford Park District cancels some activities due to heat

The Rockford Park District has changed some programs and activities due to Tuesday's oppressive heat.

The following programs and activities have been affected for Tuesday, July 17:

  • NFL Flag and Cheer practices - canceled
  • Tots Camp - canceled (will be made up; date to be announced)
  • Lockwood Park Riding Lessons - canceled
  • Time 2 Play Summer Playground program at Ridge, Churchill, Bloom School, Beattie Playground, Harmon, and Fair Grounds Parks - canceled
  • Time 2 Play Summer Playground program at Keye-Mallquist and Wantz Parks - closing at 1:00 p.m.

The Park District is also offering an opportunity to stay cool this summer at the Carlson Ice Arena. The indoor skating rink is open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. The ice arena is located at 4150 North Perryville Road in Loves Park.
