The Rockford region will host hundreds of possible future Olympians this month thanks to two U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Olympic Development Program events.
Region II ODP Boys' Camps began on July 5 and will continue until July 21 at Sportscore II. Approximately 1,900 players and coaches will come to Rockford from 13 states around the Midwest to participate. Around 2,700 hotel room nights will be filled and the camps produce an estimated $1.4 million annually for area businesses. Daily play schedules for the camps can be found here.
The 2012 ODP Region II Boys and Girls Tournaments will be held this weekend from July 13 to July 15. Play will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at Sportscore II and championship games will start at noon on Sunday. The tournament is expected to fill 400 hotel room nights and generate around $72,000 for the local economy. A complete tournament schedule can be found here.
The program is designed to help identify future Olympic and college-level athletes and has not been held in Rockford for two years.
