Rockford man sentenced to 70 years for murder of ice cream vendor

A Rockford man has been sentenced to 70 years in prison for 2007 murder of an ice cream vendor.

Isidro Duran was selling ice cream from a cart in the 700 block of Loomis Street when he was approached by three teens, who robbed Duran at gunpoint. Duran was shot in the back, buttocks, and legs as he fled on food. He later died as a result of his injuries.

Of the three teens, Michael Jennings and Justin Dismuke are already serving time for the crime. Rafael Santos was convicted on three counts of first degree murder just last month. He was 17 at the time of the murder and will serve 100 percent of his sentence.
