City of Rockford warns residents of energy supply scams

The City of Rockford has named its chosen energy supplier after voting in favor of aggregation, but some residents are getting duped by imposters.

Rockford has chosen FirstEnergy Solutions as its new energy supplier, but other companies are passing themselves off as the official supplier to local residents. The City is warning residents that any person calling or soliciting residents at their homes are not working on behalf of the City.

An official letter will be mailed to residents from FirstEnergy Solutions on July 16. A copy of that letter is attached to this story. Individual customers will not be called and asked for personal information.

Residents and small business owners will be automatically enrolled in the City's aggregation program and will receive that rate unless they opt out via the form attached to the letter.
