A Freeport high school grad gives it his all to land a spot in the upcoming Summer Olympic team.

City leaders tell 13News, Mark Hollis tried out for pole vaulting and placed fifth.  He did not make it because only the top three move on.

Mayor George Gaulrapp says either way the city is proud of his efforts.

"But it's pretty exciting to follow him, both on TV and on the internet. and his dad Pastor Hollis is such a proud father, it's pretty cool," says Mayor Gaulrapp.

According to Hollis' bio, he lives with his wife in Indiana.  Not only does he still compete, he also coaches at a high school there and at the University of Notre Dame.
