Rockford Park District holding 2 events for vets this week

Veterans and active members of the military will be able to take advantage of special discounts at two events this week thanks to the Rockford Park District.

A patriotic concert with the Rockford Concert Band will take place at the Sinnissippi Park Music Shell on Tuesday, and is free to attend. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and features Aaron Copland's "A Lincoln Portrait", the "1812 Overture", and "Battle Hymn of the Republic". Students from Hononegah High School will also perform and each of the nation's service songs will be sung while recognizing veterans in attendance.

Magic Waters will host Military Appreciation Day on Wednesday, July 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Anyone who presents a military ID at the gate will receive free admission to the park.

The Rockford Park District also offers many other discounts and deals for veterans and active members of the military through its Operation Recreation program. For full information on the program, visit
