Red Cross helping victims after overnight fire on Summit Street

The residents of 214 Summit Street are being helped by the Red Cross after a fire destroyed their home around 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

The Rockford Fire Department arrived on scene to find the rear of the home engulfed in flames. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes thanks to an interior attack by firefighters. Crews stayed on the scene for two more hours however, until additional overhaul operations were finished.

There were no injuries reported and the estimated damage to the home is $75,000.
