Rockford area trucking company hosts job fair

A Rockford area trucking company shows there are plenty of jobs out there for people who don't mind being on the move.

It's a life on the road, but in this economy many people look at it as an opportunity. Trucking industry drivers are in high demand, with close to half a million jobs to be filled. That leaves plenty of space for these applicants at a transportation job fair hosted by Spirit CDL Truck Driving School. The fair welcomed several companies looking for workers.

"We're having a job fair today for anybody who has a Class A license or wants to get their Class A," Ken Bons, Spirit CDL Vice President, said. "We have several companies that will hire them today, or put their application in and within 24 hours they'll know whether or not they'll have a job."

Many people at the fair were looking for trucking jobs. The job means long times on the road and many hours, but for a lot of attendees, it is well worth it, while they are facing unemployment.

Spirit CDL offers a five week program, which is a little longer than most, but they say it will get you ready for the road. The companies at the job fair have training programs as well, most of which last from three to six weeks, which adds up to about 160 hours of practice. Drivers can earn between 32 and 36 thousand dollars right out of school.

Dana Fleschman says he hopes to start fresh on the road. "Well, with the economy downturn I'm going to end up losing my house, and it's kind of my mid-life crisis, as this goes. So I'm going to go on the road until I can accumulate enough money and purchase another home."

The following companies were featured at the fair:
