An 18-year-old college student from New York died in Rockford over the weekend after being airlifted from a park in Ogle County.
The Ogle County Sheriff's Department says Brandon Landau's body was found Sunday around 11:15 a.m. in Pine Creek on the south edge of the White Pines State Park. He was airlifted to Rockford Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:40 p.m.
The investigation shows Landau was last seen around 2:00 a.m. Sunday by friends at a party in the 6000 block of W. Pines Road, which is just a few blocks away from the park.
The Winnebago County Coroner's office completed an autopsy on Landau Monday, but is awaiting toxicology results before determining an exact cause of death. The report says Landau's lower body was found in the water and his upper body was on a log. There was no sign of trauma to his body.
Landau is a student at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois. He is originally from Bronx, New York.
The university released a statement Monday saying Landau was in Oregon with members of his fraternity, Sigma Pi. A remembrance was held Monday at the chapel at Illinois Wesleyan.
