SCALES MOUND, IL (WREX) -
Snowy conditions caused a school bus to go airborne early Tuesday morning.
A Scales Mound CUSD 211 school bus was traveling north on Stagecoach Trail when it hit a snow/slush covered patch on the road. The bus, operated by Alois J. Bilgri, began to skid, traveled off the road, and entered a ditch located on the east side of the road. The bus then continued to travel northbound in the ditch where it struck a culvert and became airborne. The bus eventually came to rest in the ditch.
Nineteen Scales Mound students were on the bus at the time of the accident, with seven being transported to area hospitals.
The accident is still under investigation.
