ROCKFORD (WREX) -
After suffering a major impact, Gruno's Diamonds is looking on the bright side.
On January 26, the store was accidentally hit by a half-ton pickup truck after its driver's foot slipped off of the brake and onto the gas pedal. The vehicle collided with the building, causing over $100,000 in damages.
The noise of the crash was likened to a bomb exploding, with the impact breaking a brick wall and sending shattered glass everywhere. Luckily, no one was injured.
"The most important thing is that no one was hurt," said Brent Meade, owner of Gruno's. "Our staff is to be commended on their professionalism and quick thinking during the moments after the accident."
Now Gruno's is looking to move forward and create an opportunity out of the disaster. They're having a "Maximum Impact" sales event February 23, 24, and 25. The store will be offering up goods that were slightly damaged in the impact at up to 50% off. Meade said, "Many items just need a little buffing or slight repair—so why not give customers a chance to purchase it?"
Gruno's Diamonds is located at 801 North Perryville in Rockford.
