ROCKFORD (WREX) -
After a nice run of mild weather, mother nature sends the message that winter isn't over yet.
The morning commute is snow-covered as a wintry mix is coming down Tuesday. City of Rockford salt crews hit the streets around 6:00 a.m. to combat the slippery roads. Crews wrapped up the effort by 9:15 a.m.
The 13 Weather Authority forecast says the snow and wintry mix will taper off later this morning, but the cloud cover will stay throughout the day. Highs by this afternoon will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s.
Another round of light snow is possible from Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Minor accumulation is possible, however with temperatures reaching into the lower 40s by that afternoon, it will not stick around.
Temperatures take a hit on Friday and Saturday with highs in the lower and mid 30s. Our long-range forecasting model is showing a winter system for Sunday that could bring us a good amount of snow.
