Slight decline in area gas prices

Posted: Updated:
ROCKFORD (WREX) -

Gas prices drop just over five cents in the past week, but one analyst says prices won't be heading that direction for long.

According to RockfordGasPrices.com, the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular dipped to $3.46 in the past seven days. During that same time, the national average rose 5.6 cents to $3.51.

"Gasoline prices have perked up a bit in the last week," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. "As we continue to move towards warmer weather, gasoline prices will follow, with prices accelerating higher at a faster pace come late March into April, so if motorists think this is bad, they should really hold on to their chairs."

Last February at this time drivers were paying about $3.20 per gallon.
