ROCKFORD (WREX)
An accident takes a car goes off the road, killing one man and injuring another.
It happened around 9:44 p.m. Friday night near the intersection of Pierpont Avenue and Montague Road. The car crashed into a grassy field near the intersection.
Officers found one 30-year-old Natreal Fort dead after being ejected from the vehicle. The passenger was still inside. He was taken to Rockford Memorial Hospital and is in stable condition.
"It doesn't appear that other vehicles were involved," said Rockford Police Deputy Chief Michael Booker. "The vehicle did flip multiple times and we're investigating the possibility that speed may have been a factor."
The Winnebago County Coroner's Office will perform an autopsy on Fort's body Monday, February 20th. Toxicology results will follow in about 2 weeks.
