Rasmussen Career Expo draws local employers

Posted:

People looking for work in the Rockford area get some help from Rasmussen College.

With the Rockford metropolitan area leading the state in unemployment numbers, career expos and job fairs have frequented the area with local employers attempting to stimulate a suffering job market.

Rasmussen College Career Services Advisor Jamie Hintz says these fairs and expos are an effective way to connect directly with those employers.

"I think one of the biggest challenges people face in their job search is connecting with employers. We take the middle man out," says Hintz. "We put the employers here and we give them an opportunity to talk with them and we've heard multiple success stories from previous fairs where people have gotten hired."

It's been around a year since Anthony Korst last worked. With over 45 years of experience in assembly and manufacturing, Korst hopes for a job doing just that in the Rockford area but recognizes the limited opportunities here.

"Well its difficult," says Korst. "Mainly because I'm looking in the area. I don't really like to travel but I would if I had to. But you just put out resumes."

Korst hopes his years of experience will give him a fighting chance as a acknowledges the value degrees hold into today's market.

"Its a tough world out there and you need a lot of experience. Its really up in the air."

Rasmussen College holds two expos annually one in this one in February and another later in the year in August.
