Sears is laying off 100 workers at its Illinois headquarters in Hoffman Estates.
Sears Holding Corporation Spokesman Chris Brathwaite announced Thursday that the layoffs would take effect immediately.
The Illinois Legislature approved a $150 million tax credit for Sears in December after the company threatened to move its headquarters out of state. Brathwaite said the layoffs do not violate the terms of that credit since the legislation does not go into effect until next fiscal year and the job levels in the legislation are below the figure Sears will have after the layoffs.
