Schools statewide will receive over $600 million in funding to repair, update, and build schools.

Harvard and Rochelle will be among the 31 districts in Illinois to receive funding from Illinois Jobs Now!, Governor Quinn announced Thursday. Along with creating an estimated 4,000 construction jobs in the state, the funding will allow districts to build new schools, add new classrooms, and make renovations to aging buildings. Other projects could include renovating existing classrooms, upgrading aging facilities, and adding technology updates.

"In order for our students to compete for the jobs of tomorrow, we must ensure they are receiving a quality education in quality school facilities," Governor Quinn said. "This capital funding will help school districts across the state update their facilities and make critical repairs to improve the educational experience for our students."

Governor Quinn also announced today that the state is making available $50 million in School Maintenance Grant Program grants, a dollar-for-dollar matching grant that will make $50,000 in matching money available to maintain buildings or structures for educational purposes.

Harvard Community Unit School District 50 received $13.81 million in grant money while Rochelle Community Consolidated School District 231 received $12.32 million.
