ROCKFORD (WREX) -
Agencies serving Winnebago and Boone counties have received funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Agencies including Shelter Care Ministries, Rosecrance, The Carpenter's Place, Careers Etc., and MELD received a combined total of $1,556,254 in funding through HUD's Continuum of Care grant program. The grant is awarded competitively to local programs that provide permanent and transitional housing to homeless individuals and families as well as job training, health care, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment and child care.

Over 7,100 local homeless programs received $1.47 billion nationally. The funds for the grant originate from the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. The City of Rockford Human Services Department is the grant administrator for the local program.
