Ryan International Airlines, based in Rockford, is furloughing flight attendants.
13News got copies of several documents sent to employees Wednesday. Ryan does a lot of work for the Department of Defense. CEO Michael McCabe says in a memo a lot of this business has shrunk, and it's forced the company to make cuts. McCabe anticipates the furloughs to last 6 months.
Our documents show about 100 flight attendants let go. According to some employees the overall total is close to 200. Support staff at Rockford headquarters is also affected. There's also talk the airline may actually leave RFD.
Rockford-based Rubloff Development bought Ryan in 2004. The airline was based in Wichita, Kansas. Rubloff moved Ryan to RFD in 2006. We couldn't reach anyone in the company for a comment.
