New coaster at Six Flags takes riders to new heights

GURNEE (WREX) -

Six Flags Great America will unveil their latest roller coaster in the Spring.

X Flight will be the first wing coaster in the United States. Riders will fly through the air at speeds up to 55mph with no track above or below them. With a 12-story plunge, 3,000 feet of drops and five inversions that include a zero-g roll, X Flight will be a ride to remember. Perhaps the most nerve-racking moment will be when the coaster flies straight toward a tower before quickly inverting and speeding through a keyhole cut-out in the building.

The coaster is designed by Swiss manufacturers Bolliger and Mabillard, the designers of other famed Great America coasters Raging Bull, Superman: Ultimate Flight, and Batman: The Ride. Construction began in the Fall of 2011 in the County Fair section of the park and the ride is scheduled to open in the upcoming Spring. If you can't wait until Spring, take the virtual tour today!
