ROCKFORD (WREX)
A Rockford school that specializes in teaching kids in a differently way opens up its doors.
Spectrum Progressive School held an open house on Saturday. It offers education for students 3-years old through high school age. Teachers there say the hands on curriculum better prepares students for life in college, or any other avenue they pursue after graduating.
"When they go off into the work world, they're actually prepared to learn something," said Spectrum Progressive School Executive Director Christine Klekamp. "They know how to work in teams with other people. They know how to get along, they know how to problem solve, they know how to do logical thinking and they find that so much more valuable than just rote memorization and regurgitation for a test."
Spectrum Progressive School has a 12-1 student teacher ratio.
