ROCKFORD (WREX) -
A ruling Wednesday says the Northern Illinois Women's Center can open, after paying a fine.
The clinic faces a $9,000 fine if they chose to reopen and if they don't they'll have to forfeit their license and pay a $1,000 fine.
Back in September, the facility was surveyed and they found four big reasons to shut them down.
According to the Illinois Department of Health the clinic failed to keep a registered nurse in the operating room during procedures and to have an one to supervise other nurses on staff.
The state also says they failed to keep staff physicians licensed in Illinois and have an agreement with an outside lab to handle their lab work.
The clinic's lawyer says their happy to have the matter resolved, but worries this may not end the discrimination against the facility.
"The thing that has bothered me the most about this that there are obviously a number of people who are local vehement opponents of letting this doctor practice and what they are willing to say in public bears no relationship to the truth or the facts and that's a sad thing," said Harold C. Hirshman.
At a public hearing, a ruling showed the clinic did everything it needed to do in order to be reopened.
