
Teachers in six area schools will share more than $6,000 for their classroom projects this year.
Teachers in Winnebago and Boone counties were able to apply for the money to help enhance their classroom learning.
Below is a list of approved projects:
"Underwater Robotics"- Mastering basic engineering and science concepts through designing and building underwater robots. Christina Magee, Eisenhower Middle School - 8th Grade - $1,500
"African American Read-In"- Promoting racial diversity and healing while fostering a love of literature utilizing literature written by African American authors. Amy Orvis, Maria Montessori- 6th Grade - $715
"Memoir Writing"- Preserving history and improving writing skills through the production of multi-media digital memoirs. Amy Orvis, Maria Montessori - 6th Grade - $760
"Diversity Art"- Giving creative visual expression to the issue of diversity, acceptance, and individuality through large scale collaborative drawing and digital images. Lynn Stockton, Jefferson High School - 9th-12th Grade - $1,487
"Science in my World"- An innovative approach to teaching physics concepts utilizing hands on activities and technology. Janette Aschim & Tina Saporiti, RESA - 8th Grade - $1,350
"A Long Way Gone"- Challenging critical thinking skills and developing a sense of civic responsibility utilizing the memoir of a "child soldier" in Sierra Leone. Sean Norton, Belvidere North High School - 9th/11th Grade - $425
