ROCKFORD (WREX) -

Two of the three suspects charged in the Marie's Pizza robbery turned fatal shooting have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Brandon Sago, 22, and Desmond Bellmon, 23, both of Rockford, were both in wheelchairs when they appeared in a Winnebago County courtroom Thursday afternoon.

The third suspect, Lamar Coates, 23, also of Rockford, waived his extradition rights earlier this week. The date for his first court appearance has not been released.

All three men, along with 16-year-old Michael Sago, tried to rob the Marie's Pizza at 1513 Charles Street earlier this month. Michael Sago was shot and killed after a struggle began over a weapon with off-duty Winnebago County Deputy Frank Pobjecky, who was in the restaurant talking with the owner at the time of the attempted robbery.

A grand jury ruled Deputy Pobjecky was justified in using deadly force during the robbery attempt.

Sago, Bellmon and Coates all face charges in a 21-count indictment handed down by a grand jury. Charges include: eight counts of first degree murder, two counts of attempted first degree murder, four counts of armed robbery, and four counts of attempted armed robbery, three counts of conspiracy to commit armed robbery (one count for each defendant), six counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (two counts for each defendant), three counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon (one count for each defendant), and three counts of mob action (one count for each defendant).
