Vendors go all out for last City Market

ROCKFORD (WREX) -

Folks at Rockford's City Market take advantage of nice weather to make the most of their last opportunities of the season.

For small businesses the market is a chance to find new customers and gain visibility, for shoppers it's a chance to try new and handmade crafts and foods.

Both groups say they're sad to see it go, but because temperatures are falling they're ready to wrap things up.

Leanne Nyman brought out some special items hoping to get a few end of season shoppers.

"Well we made some apple butter and some pumpkin butter that's something new for the fall season." she said.

She says the market gives her winery exposure it didn't have before.

"A lot of people didn't even know there was a winery in Byron, so it has been good for business," said Nyman

Kay Hatch tells 13 NEWS selling wool has had it's ups and downs this season, but right now folks gearing up for winter keep her busy.

"It's been interesting it was warm, hot when we started out and people weren't that interested in thinking about wool, but as it's gotten cooler we've sold a considerable amount," said Hatch.

For vendors who make it out every year, the market is a chance to interact and build relationships.

"I'm having repeat customers people are buying in volume so it's been good." said Roshan Etim

Buyers look at it as a chance to get food you can't find anywhere else.

"It's the grocery trip I look forward to, after you eat here and go there nothing tastes right it's like your taste buds have been brought to life. You go to the grocery store and have a tomato, that's not a tomato that's an imitation," said shopper Nellie Jenkins.
