Rockford abortion clinic shutdown over health concerns

Posted: Updated:
ROCKFORD (WREX) -

The Illinois Department of Public Health has indefinitely suspended the license for the Northern Illinois Women's Center on Broadway in Rockford.

Four major safety violations were cited in a report from the health department, including the lack of a registered nurse in the operating room for all invasive or operative procedures and to supervise and direct nursing personnel in the care of patients.

The facility faces $15,000 in fines for the violations.

The Northern Illinois Women's Center has until October 9 to request a hearing to dispute the violations.
