The City of Rockford Human Services Dept., Community Services Division, announces that no further appointments at this site are available for disconnected households and those households with children under 5 years of age for the month of October for LIHEAP, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
The City of Rockford Human Services Dept. Community Services Division will accept phone calls beginning Monday, October 31 at 8:00am for appointments at this site for the month of November. We realize there are numerous households seeking this assistance and we are doing our best to accommodate them, however the demand for this service far exceeds the funding and capacity available. We also encourage households who are behind in their utility payments to please contact the utility company to attempt to work out a payment plan.
To reduce your energy costs, we encourage you to use energy saving techniques such as
switching to energy efficient compact fluorescent lights, switching off appliances that are on standby and turning off anything that doesn't need to be on, keep the refrigerator clean and well ventilated, use cold water to wash clothes, keep your thermostat at 68 degrees, seal windows and block door cracks with blankets or towels. Please remember that using space heaters and candles can be fire hazards.
Please note that participating LIHEAP sites in Winnebago and Boone Counties may set their call-in dates and book their appointments out in different ways depending on their staff and capacity, so please call the individual sites to get updated information on their procedures. For LIHEAP program updates, call 815-987-5711, or pick up information sheets and site lists at the Community Services Division office at 555 N. Court Suite 301.
