ROCKFORD (WREX) - A community group is asking parents who drop off and pick up their students at school to turn off their engines.
It's part of the "No Idle Zone" initiative. The committee's goal is to keep the air and the environment around area schools clean.
If your car is idling more than 30 seconds, shutting off your car can help clear the air.
"What we're asking for individuals to do is if they are in the bank drive-through..or if they are getting their car washed..or if they are stopped at a train track to simply turn off their car which will ultimately save them money, save fuel and improve the quality of air in our area," said Monica Krysztopa, Morrissey Family Businesses.
Bus drivers in Rockford District 205 already turn off their buses around area schools.
