ROCKFORD - The United Way of Rock River Valley says its "Media United" fundraising effort is off to a positive start.
"Media United" is a partnership between local media outlets to help get the word out about the organization's fundraising. The United Way is trying to raise $350,000 by mid-February.
Without enough money, it may not be able to pay the groups that depend on that funding. "There are many agencies that don't go out fundraising, many agencies that don't have the high-profile names, that still get considerable funds from the United Way. So one check to the United Way helps fund many, many programs...some of which you know about and some of which you don't know about," said United Way Interim CEO Paul Logli.
So far, the United Way's website alone has brought in about $3,000 in donations.
