ROCKFORD- When Edward Hutsell of Rockford got into a motorcycle accident in July he was pronounced dead at the scene. But on Saturday, he was full of life at his benefit party.
The benefit raised money for Edward's medical bills, and none of it would be possible without the support of family and friends.
Edward suffered from massive brain injuries after his accident, and along the way his friends and family were always there to support him. "I'm happy that people care about me that much," Edward said.
But the road to recovery has been a long one since that fateful day. "I got the worst phone call you could ever imagine. The one they say you don't ever want to get," said Faye Hutsell, Edward's mother.
"I actually dont remember too much about it. I guess I went to breakfast that morning with friends, and after that I don't remember," Edward said.
For months, Edward was in an induced coma. He was physically there with family and friends, but mentally somewhere else. Now Edward is getting back in the swing of daily life. He's living proof that what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger.
"You dont really realize how many friends you have and how important they are until something like this happens," Faye Hutsell said.
"It was an act of God. You know what they say," Edward said.
There's also an Edward Hutsell III Fund. Donations are being accepted at Riverside Community Bank branches.
