Heather Pick 1970-2008It is with deep sadness that we report former 13 WREX News Anchor Heather Pick has passed away from her battle with cancer.
Pick died Friday, November 7 at 12:30 a.m. in her Columbus, Ohio home surrounded by family.
Pick was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999. She defeated the disease only to learn that it had returned in an incurable form in 2004. Pick courageously battled the cancer, making her fight public in hopes of finding new treatments for the deadly disease.
A private celebration of life for family and close friends was held Monday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio. There will be no public service.
Anyone who would like to make a donation in Heather's memory is being asked by the family to consider The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Nationwide Children's Hospital or the Stefanie Spielman Fund.
A bench in Heather's honor will be dedicated by the pond at the entrance to the Columbus Zoo, a place Heather often visited with her family.
One of the many things Heather did to raise money for cancer research was produce a music CD. You can order it online by clicking here, or it is also on sale at the Walmart at Alpine and Riverside.
The message Heather wanted to leave for everyone is, "Don't wait. Give someone an unexpected gift just because you appreciate them. Take your own loved ones to a cherished community treasure or try something completely new."
Heather is survived by her husband, Joe Cygan, and their young children, Julia and Jack.
Heather Pick was 38 years old.
