
Students at Machesney Park Elementary take part in a Mock Election sponsored by the Youth Leadership Initiative.Students at more than 50 Rockford schools cast their vote for who should be the country's next President.
The schools are taking part in the nationwide Student Mock Election. Leading up to Thursday's vote school held debates and forums on the issues.
At King and Thompson kindergartners through fifth grade students cast their ballots in authentic voting booths and received "I Voted" stickers from the Rockford Board of Elections.
"I have never witnessed a group of students so involved and so creative," said Thompson Principal Emma Gentry. "They are really into this election. I can see this election making lifetime voters out of these children."

In Machesney Park, students took part in a mock election sponsored by the Youth Leadership Initiative. An online voting system will count those ballots. A link to those results can also be found to the left of this story.
