
Record number of early voters in Rockford.ROCKFORD - Both Rockford and Winnebago County are reporting higher than expected numbers during the early voting period.
More than 9,000 people cast their ballots early in Rockford. The Rockford Board of Elections says it has more than 11,000 ballots in house already, both early and absentee.
More than 3,500 people voted early in Winnebago County, which now has nearly 5,400 early and absentee ballots turned in.
Absentee ballots will be counted as long as they're postmarked by November 3 and get to the election office within two weeks.
Statewide the latest numbers released show more than 800,000 people voted early in Illinois. There are about 7.7 million active voters registered in the state.
About 220,000 people voted early in the February primaries.
This is the first general election in Illinois where people have the option of voting early.
