MCHENRY COUNTY - Police say a Marengo man had been drinking when he caused a crash that injured a Loves Park woman.
Anita Perez, 65, of Loves Park, was taken by Flight for Life to Rockford Memorial Hospital after being hit by a car around 7:56 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Sunnyside and Perkins in McHenry County.
Police say Perez had just backed out of a driveway when her Chevy Malibu was hit by a Ford Taurus. Her car rolled over once and landed in a ditch. Police say she was not wearing her seatbelt. On Monday afternoon she was upgraded from critical to serious condition.
The driver of the Taurus, Shannon Schroeder, 25, of Marengo, is charged with felony DUI, failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving with a license suspended and no insurance.
Schroeder and a passenger in the Taurus, Guy Miotto, 44, of Marengo both suffered minor injuries.
