ROCKFORD - Jurors are picked to decide whether a police deputy broke the law.

Joseph Boomer, 35, is on trial for reckless homicide and aggravated reckless driving.  He was a Winnebago County Sheriff's deputy, on duty,  when investigators say he caused an accident that killed two brothers and seriously hurt their sister.  Aaron Bachman had just gotten married recently.  His younger brother D.J. went to Winnebago High School and Kori wanted to be a federal marshal.

The accident happened at Route 20 and Weldon Road January, 14, 2006.  The Bachman family sued the sheriff's department and Boomer.  That case is still pending.

In the meantime, Boomer was charged criminally and his jury selection started Monday.  As of late this afternoon, 6 jurors had been picked to hear the case.
