ROCKFORD (WREX) - Rockford College students honor the mission of one of the school's first students.

About a dozen of them volunteered at Carpenter's Place working on arts and crafts.  It's a simple project with a big impact.  Organizers say doing something fun like that can help the agency's homeless clients adjust and have some normalcy.

It's also a way to expose these students to volunteering.

"I think sometimes in college we get into our own little bubbles, and we don't necessarily realize what all is going on in the world and the Rockford community," says Rockford College senior, Amy Collinsworth.

Rockford College is celebrating Jane Addams' 150th birthday, and her dedication to community service.
