Mark CampobelloROCKFORD (WREX) - A former priest in the Rockford Diocese is a free man again.
Mark Campobello, 45, was convicted of sexual abuse several years ago in the Chicago suburbs. The victims sued the Rockford Diocese, which settled the case for $2.2 million.
Campobello served several years in prison before being released on parole in 2008. Then he was put back behind bars where he served another year on a technical parole violation.
He was released by the Illinois Department of Corrections on Wednesday morning and boarded a train to the Chicago area where he is going to live in Crystal Lake. He has three days to register with the state's sex offender registry list.
A group that represents victims of sexual abuse by priests say they're worried Campobello is still a danger.
