BYRON (WREX) - Instead of battling blazes, Rockford Firefighters battle sand traps and water hazards.
Today was the Rockford Fire Union Local 413's Annual Golf Playday. People from all over the area come out to play and raise money for a good cause. Fire Union Golf Playday Chairman Kyle Hill says it helps fund scholarships for kids of firefighters who have died. "They served our community and this is our way of giving back to them and making sure their children are taken care of long after they're gone."
The union expects to raise several thousand dollars after more than 80 people hit the links for the fundraiser.
