FREEPORT (WREX) - As flood victims in Stephenson County return to their homes the Red Cross Shelter in Freeport prepares to go on standby.
The last few people staying at the shelter planned to leave today. Unless someone else comes in this afternoon the shelter will close. It will reopen if someone needs it. The closure not only affects the people who need a place to stay overnight but Red Cross Supervisor Bernie Brinkmeier says it also affects people who need to use some of the shelters other services. "We've had some families who have just come and maybe will be able to get back in their homes but still needed food, couldn't cook yet, so they came back to eat."
If you or someone you know needs to stay at the shelter call the American Red Cross. The number is (815) 233-0011.
