President Robert Head of Rockford College welcomes President John Peters of NIUBy John Folz-Donahue
ROCKFORD (WREX) - The Higher Education Alliance for the Rock River Region is a group of college educators including the Presidents of Rockford College, Rock Valley College, Northern Illinois University, and the Dean of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford. They held a public lecture with Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey as special guest to talk about higher education Tuesday night.
The goal and the name of the series is "To Build a Better Rockford" and NIU's President John Peters is fully on board. "What has happened in communities like Rockford is grappling with this issue and training people for the new knowledge economy while building upon its hard working people and strengths." Peters adds that he along with his colleagues have more in common than they first thought.
About one hundred members of the public attended the forum which discussed the challenges and opportunities of Rockford and the rest of the region. On April 15th the group will discuss other cities success stories and on May 6th they will present an education strategy for the region.
