Heavy snow expected with incoming Winter Storm

UNDATED (WREX) - A large Winter Storm is making its way to the area tonight.

Our entire viewing area is under a Winter Storm Watch through Tuesday evening and Winter Storm Warnings have been issued for Boone, DeKalb, Lee, McHenry, Ogle, Rock, Winnebago and Walworth counties.

The 13 Weather Authority forecast calls for snow to intensify as we head into the evening hours Monday. This system could give us 6-10" of snow with some localized area receiving more. Then the problem could be drifting snow as winds pick up and temperatures get cold by Wednesday morning.

Winter Storm parking rules are in effect in Loves Park, Rockford which has issued a snow emergency effective at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday through 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, and the City of Beloit which has issued a snow emergency effective at 5:00 a.m. Tuesday through 5:00 a.m. Wednesday.

The City of Rockford Public Works Department sent crews out to start salting at 7:00 a.m. Monday.
