CHICAGO (AP) -- A published report says Chicago Board of Education President Michael Scott was asked about his expenses the day before authorities say he took his own life. That's according to a Chicago Sun-Times story citing police reports.
The report posted online Saturday says Chicago Mayor Richard Daley's press secretary Jacquelyn Heard called Scott on Nov. 15 to schedule a meeting on questionable expenses Scott had charged to board credit cards.
In the 13-minute conversation, Heard says Scott appeared upbeat. She says she was calling to find out more about a pending inspector general's report on Scott's expenses.
The Cook County medical examiner's office and Chicago police ruled Scott's Nov. 16 death a suicide. The 60-year-old's body was found on a downtown river embankment.
